CS2 Pugs and 10 Mans with Elo Rankings on Discord

Pug queues with real veto, MR12-aware rating weight, and auto-recorded results from your own server.

Premier gives you a rating but not a community — a number and a rotating cast of strangers. FACEIT gives you both, but only if your region and skill band have the population to fill a queue at the hour you actually play, which below about level 8 after midnight is frequently untrue.

A private pug queue solves a different problem than either of them: the same forty people, playing repeatedly, with a rating that describes them relative to each other. That last part is the part worth internalising. Your ladder is not trying to place anyone globally. It only has to be internally consistent, because the only question it answers is which five should play which five tonight.

Which also means you should stop comparing your numbers to Premier's. They measure different populations. A 1400 on your ladder is not 14,000 Premier, and any community that treats it that way will argue about it forever.

What running your own pugs does cost you is a set of decisions Premier and FACEIT make on your behalf — which veto format, how to seed someone who arrives with a Premier rating already, and what a 13-11 should do to a leaderboard compared to a 13-2. Most groups make those decisions by accident. They are worth making on purpose.

Setting up a Counter-Strike 2 leaderboard

The decisions that are specific to Counter-Strike 2. Everything else follows the general setup guide.

  1. 1

Veto is a competitive decision, not a formality

Set Map Voting Strategy to Captains Ban (no reroll) for the closest thing to the format your players know from every other CS context. Captains Ban (with reroll) is the variant to pick if your pool is small enough that the same two maps keep surviving the bans. A Simple Vote is fine for a casual weeknight queue and actively wrong for anything you would call a season.

  2. 2

Seed from Premier once, then stop looking at it

A new player who already has a Premier rating is not a blank slate, and making them prove it over ten matches distorts everyone they play against on the way. Use /set_rating player to place them roughly where they belong on day one. After that the two numbers should be allowed to diverge — they are measuring different populations and forcing them to agree is not a goal.

  3. 3

MR12 makes short matches noisier, so weight them accordingly

A 13-11 and a 13-2 are the same result to a plain win/loss ladder, and over MR12 the gap between "narrowly better tonight" and "genuinely better" is smaller than it was over MR15. If your group cares, record round scores with the match and use a scoring mode that reads them, so a blowout moves ratings further than a coin-flip does.

  4. 4

    Auto-record from the game server

If you run your own server, MatchZy can post results straight into the leaderboard through the REST API — no one screenshots anything, no one is the person who forgot to record last Thursday. The alternative for communities without a dedicated server is the screenshot flow: Require Screenshot plus AI Screenshot Recording reads the scoreboard and fills the result in for you.

  5. 5

    Ratings

Player (Specific Format) at 5v5 for a pug queue. Teams re-form every match, so there is no durable team to rate — unless you are running a genuine team league with fixed rosters, in which case Team (Specific Format) is the one you want and the queue should be a /queue_team.
