01 How it works

How a Round Robin Works

1

Everyone plays everyone

Each player meets every other player exactly once. With 6 players that is 5 games each and 15 matches in all.

2

Rounds, so everyone plays at once

The schedule is split into rounds in which everybody plays one match. It is built with the circle method: one player stays put and the rest move round one place each round.

3

Odd numbers get a bye

With an odd number of players, one sits out each round, so the schedule needs one round more. A bye is not a win: it only means no game that round.

4

The table ranks it

Most wins first. Players level on wins are separated by their results against each other, then by score difference. There are no draws: every match needs a winner.

A round robin of N players has N × (N − 1) ÷ 2 matches, so it grows fast: 10 players is 45 matches and 20 players is 190. Past about 10 or 12, split the field into groups or play a Swiss tournament instead.

04 When a page is not enough

Run It As a Real Tournament

This page runs the exact same code as live Team Up tournaments, but everything here stays in your browser. A real tournament adds the parts a page cannot do.

Sign-ups that run themselves

Players register from a button in Discord or on your league page. Set a cap and an unregister deadline and stop chasing a spreadsheet.

Seeding from real ratings

Link a leaderboard and one click seeds the draw by Elo, so the #1 seed is the player who earned it rather than the one who signed up first.

A live page spectators can follow

Every event gets a public bracket page with an up-next queue, a results feed and final standings — no Discord account needed to watch.

Results that feed the ladder

Recorded matches write to match history and move ratings, so a deep tournament run counts toward the season, not just the trophy.

Round Robin FAQ

Schedules, byes, tiebreaks and how many matches to expect.

What is a round robin tournament?

A round robin is a format in which every player or team plays every other one once. Nobody is eliminated, and the winner is whoever wins the most matches. It is the fairest way to rank a small group, because everyone faces the same opponents.

How do I make a round robin schedule?

Paste your players or teams into the list, one per line, and the schedule is drawn instantly, split into rounds in which everybody plays once. Click a name to record who won; the standings re-sort after every result. You can copy the schedule as text to paste into Discord, or print it.

How many matches are in a round robin?

N × (N − 1) ÷ 2 for N players: 6 matches for 4 players, 15 for 6, 28 for 8, 45 for 10 and 190 for 20. Each player plays N − 1 of them. With an even number of players that takes N − 1 rounds; with an odd number it takes N rounds.

What happens with an odd number of players?

One player sits out each round with a bye, and everyone sits out exactly once. A bye is not a win and is worth nothing in the table, so it favours nobody: everyone still plays the same number of matches.

How are ties broken in a round robin?

Most wins first. If players are level, the matches between them decide it (a mini-table of just those players), then score difference, then points scored. This page uses the same standings code as live Team Up tournaments.

Is it free, and is my schedule saved?

It is free, with no sign-up. The players, the schedule and the results are saved in your browser, so reopening the page picks up where you left off; they are not on a server, so they do not follow you to another device. To run a round robin with sign-ups, a live table players can follow and results that feed your ratings, use Team Up tournaments in your Discord server.
