Roblox Competitive Leaderboards and Elo Rankings on Discord

The experience ships no ranked mode. That absence is the entire reason a Roblox community needs a ladder.

Every other game on this site already has a competitive ladder of its own, and Team Up is a better-tuned alternative to it. Roblox is the case where there is nothing to replace. The overwhelming majority of experiences ship no rating, no matchmaking and no persistent record of who beat whom — and the ones that do usually reset it.

Which means the Discord server is the ranked mode. Not a companion to it, not a leaderboard mirroring one that already exists — the only place a competitive result is stored at all. That is a larger responsibility than "we added a bot", and it changes which decisions matter.

Two of them matter more here than anywhere else. The first is that recording has to be nearly free. Roblox communities run on volume and turnover, with far more matches per week than a 10-mans server and a roster that partly rotates every month. A ladder that requires an admin to type out every result will be abandoned inside a fortnight, not because anyone decided to abandon it but because the admin got bored.

The second is alts. Making a new Roblox account costs nothing, which makes smurfing and rating-farming easier here than on any platform with a purchase or a phone number in the way. Both are solvable, and both are much cheaper to solve on day one than after a leaderboard people no longer trust.

Setting up a Roblox leaderboard

The decisions that are specific to Roblox. Everything else follows the general setup guide.

  1. 1

Pick the shape before the settings

Roblox experiences are far more varied in format than anything else on this site, and almost all the setup follows from which one you have. Duels and 1v1 arenas want Player (Specific Format) at 1v1. Team objective modes want the same rating type at your team size with a /queue_versus. Round-based, tag and last-one-standing modes are free-for-alls — those want /queue_ffa and placements, not a winner.

  2. 2

Get the admin out of the recording loop

This is the setting that decides whether the ladder is still alive next month. AI Screenshot Recording reads an end-of-round scoreboard and fills the result in, so a player can record without an admin present. If your community has a developer, the REST API is better still — anything that can make an HTTP request can record a match, and a Roblox experience can post its own results out through HttpService. No other game on this list can report itself.

  3. 3

    Make alt accounts unprofitable

Use /set_rating player to place an obvious returning smurf where they belong rather than letting them farm their way up through everyone below them, and watch the leaderboard for the pattern of a new account with a very high win rate against a narrow set of opponents. The ladder cannot see Roblox account age, so the moderation has to be social — but it is much easier when the match history makes farming visible.

  4. 4

    One leaderboard per experience

If your server covers several Roblox games — and most do — give each one its own leaderboard rather than pooling them. Ratings only mean something relative to a fixed population playing a fixed thing, and a combined board mostly measures who played the most of whichever game was easiest that week.

  5. 5

    Plan for turnover with seasons

Roblox rosters turn over faster than any other community type here. A season rollover archives the standings and starts a fresh board, which both gives returning players a reachable ladder and stops the top being permanently held by someone who stopped playing in March. Six to eight weeks is a reasonable first guess.
