EA FC Leagues and Elo Ladders on Discord

League table or Elo ladder — the choice depends on whether your season has fixtures.

EA FC communities split cleanly into two structures that look similar from the outside and behave nothing alike.

A league table has fixtures. Everyone plays everyone, points accumulate, and the table at the end is a complete statement about a closed round-robin. It is fair in a way nothing else is — the schedule guarantees comparable opposition — and it is rigid: the season has a fixed size, a fixed length, and one player who stops replying can leave three fixtures unplayed and the table unfinished.

An Elo ladder has no fixtures. Anyone plays anyone whenever both are online, and the rating handles the fact that beating the best player in the server is worth more than beating the worst. It never stalls and never ends, which is exactly its weakness: there is no moment where anyone has won anything.

Most servers want both, in sequence — an open ladder that runs continuously, and a seasonal competition that takes the top of it. Choosing one permanently is the mistake worth avoiding.

Setting up a EA FC leaderboard

The decisions that are specific to EA FC. Everything else follows the general setup guide.

  1. 1

    The ladder: 1v1, player-rated

A /queue_versus at 1v1 pointed at a leaderboard using Player (Specific Format). That is the whole ladder. With no teams to form and no maps to veto, EA FC has the simplest queue setup of any game here — the interesting decisions are all about what you wrap around it.

  2. 2

The table: tournaments, not a second ladder

Do not try to model a fixture list as a leaderboard. /tournaments runs the bracket or group stage with real fixtures and a public web page, while the ladder keeps running underneath it. Trying to make one leaderboard behave like a league table means fighting the rating system to produce a points column it was never computing.

  3. 3

Seasons give the ladder an ending

A season rollover archives the current standings and starts a fresh board, which is how a perpetual ladder acquires the thing it structurally lacks — a moment where someone finished first. Run it on whatever cadence your group's attention actually has, which is usually shorter than the one they will propose.

  4. 4

    Record scorelines, not just results

A 4-0 and a 1-0 are different pieces of evidence and your players know it. Recording the scoreline with the match gives you the option of scoring modes that read it, and gives the match history something to show beyond a column of W and L.

  5. 5

Tier roles carry the ladder into the server

/tiers grants Discord roles by rating band. On a 1v1 ladder where there is no team to belong to, this is most of the visible social payoff — it is the thing people notice, not the number on a web page they visit once a week.

No public EA FC leagues in the directory yet.

Plenty of communities run private ladders without listing them. If you'd like yours found, publish it to the explorer once it's set up — or start one and be the first.
